The TGA announced they had approved the change in April, not Lifeblood. The process from there is that Lifeblood need to update its donor information system and then all 8 territories need to gazette this change prior to the change occurring. The TGA rejected Lifeblood’s proposed reduction in deferral period in 2013, despite the evidence Lifeblood presented supporting the change. Lifeblood have then worked for several years, with partners likes AFAO, to get the issue back before the TGA and have finally achieved the change. Despite this, the TGA created a previously non-existent ban on PrEP users with no evidence to back up their decision. Anger should be directed at the TGA, not Lifeblood. If Lifeblood had been allowed to make the change when they wanted this would have been dealt with in 2013.
