Madonna’s $10.5 million fine threat
Madonna may face retribution for during her recent St. Petersburg concert where she encouraged her audience to support LGBTI rights and speak out against gay ‘propaganda’ laws.
Following her decision to voice her support for LGBTI Russians, a group of activists have promised to sue the pop star for $10.5 million for “moral damage” according to Russian news agency, RIA Novosti.
“We demand that she pay for moral damage suffered by St. Petersburg residents as a result of her actions during the show on August 9th,” a spokeswoman for the Union of Russian Citizens said.
“We must defend our right to normal cultural life without propaganda of values and views that contradict the Russian culture.”
The singer has already been fined 5,000 Rubles (US$156) for defying the ‘gay gag’ anti-propaganda law.
