Chappell Roan and Lady Gaga Star In Carpool Karaoke Episode
Chappell Roan has made her debut on over the weekend, showing us that, despite all her success over the last year, she’s still the same down to earth girl we once watched in unhinged TikTok lives.
In a surprise Christmas themed episode of Carpool Karaoke, Chappell, Lady Gaga, and Dua Lipa each took a little trip to a place that was special to them with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. Of course, our Midwest Princess went back home to Missouri, where she was joined by her parents, Kara and Dwight, in the backseat.
The group sang Pink Pony Club together, and her parents reflected on the role they’d played in the song’s creation.
鈥淚 started to tear up just listening to her sing it just now,鈥 Kara said. 鈥淲e love her so much and we鈥檙e so proud of what she does and who she is and what she stands for. I love singing it with her at her shows and I love it when you can just see the people just respond to that song so much. And even when we鈥檙e grown up, we really care about what our parents think about us.鈥
“I think about this a lot and try not to get emotional about it,” Chappell’s dad said, wiping away a few tears. “What she has taught me as a father is respect for other people and all people, and that鈥檚 what I want people to understand. Everything that is about her is about loving everybody, and she has taught me that.鈥
It’s about “not giving up on people”
Chappell also took Lowe to her family farm, where she introduced him to her chickens who are, in a very on brand move for Roan, named after Lady Gaga, Little Richard, and all the Spice Girls.
She spoke about how important her home state is to her, and that even though she’s happy to have found more freedom in Los Angeles, she’ll always be grateful to be from Missouri.
鈥淸In] a conservative community, I understand the fear and where it comes from. It鈥檚 scary when it鈥檚 something you don鈥檛 know or understand. So it鈥檚 like one degree every conversation,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 conversation after conversation and not just giving up on people that have helped you when you were in diapers. Like, that鈥檚 just not how I personally operate. The door has to be open or there is no learning.鈥
Roan has been using her new newfound fame to advocate for human rights, and in August, the star raised over $100k for reproductive rights and LGBTQIA+ rights.
Gaga performs long-lost Christmas song
Lady Gaga also featured on the episode, driving through Los Angeles and singing some of hits, including Shallow and her latest release, Disease. She also did her first performance of her 2008 song Christmas Tree in 16 years.
AC/DC’s Brian Johnson also joined at one point to help belt out a bit of Highway to Hell, much to Gaga’s delight.
Chappell, Gaga, and Dua Lipa all sang Wham’s Last Christmas on their trip and, although they were miles apart, they were able to sing it together through the magic of video editing.
